It’s Not Just Anxiety—It’s a Body Crying for Help

The truth about anxiety, symptoms, and what your body is really trying to tell you

For months—maybe longer—I was anxious, exhausted, irritable, and not really here. I’d stay up too late. Eat when I wasn’t hungry. Scroll my phone all day while the house buzzed around me. Some call it “couch rotting.” I call it survival mode.

But the moment that cracked me open was a morning I was supposed to bring my boys to a wellness visit. I couldn’t do it. Not because I was busy, but because I didn’t feel safe being in the car. I called my husband. He came home. He drove us. And then I drove myself to the ER—because I felt so disconnected from myself, I honestly thought something was deeply wrong.

They told me I was fine.

I just needed glasses.

So I got glasses. But the dizziness, panic, and fear didn’t go away. I remember leaving a store holding my son’s hand, trying to keep it together while feeling like I might fall over.
Eventually, it all led to full-blown panic attacks. One day, I called the ambulance. My heart rate was over 200. My hands were shaking. My body was screaming.

They ran the tests.

I was still “fine.”

MS? Maybe.
Fibromyalgia? Could be.
Autoimmune? Anxiety? POTS?
Probably “just anxiety.”

But the truth is, it wasn’t just anxiety.
It was nervous system dysregulation.

What Is Nervous System Dysregulation?

Here’s how I explain it now, after years of learning and healing:
Nervous system dysregulation is what happens when your body has been stuck in survival mode for too long.
You’re not lazy. You’re not dramatic. You’re not broken.
You’ve just been wired for stress—running on adrenaline, caffeine, little sleep, and pressure—and your body finally hit the wall.

The signals?

  • Can’t sleep

  • Can’t focus

  • Panic for no reason

  • Feeling disconnected from your own life

  • Fear of being alone or driving

  • “Episodes” that feel physical, but tests say you’re fine

Sound familiar?

It’s your body’s way of saying: Please stop. I can’t keep doing this.

Why This Happens—Even When Tests Say You’re Fine

Stress is more than just a feeling. It’s physical.
When we live in a chronically stressed state, our body starts shutting down the non-essential systems to “protect” us.

Your digestion slows.
Hormones shift.
Sleep becomes broken or impossible.
Your brain starts running on survival patterns.
Your minerals deplete.
And you might even feel like you’re going crazy.

But you’re not.

What Helped Me Begin to Heal

Healing wasn’t instant. But it was possible.

For me, it started with the smallest, most doable shifts—like:

  • Tulsi tea and ashwagandha in the evening to calm my nerves.

  • Eating real meals, not skipping or snacking all day.

  • Going to bed by 10 PM, even when my mind wanted to scroll.

  • Moving my body, gently and regularly, even just walking outside.

  • Saying no to things that drained me.

  • Magnesium for support.

  • And breathwork—especially this simple technique:

Breathe in slowly for 5 seconds.
Breathe out for 7.
(The key: your exhale should always be longer than your inhale. That’s what signals your body you’re safe.)

You don’t have to do everything.
You just need to start with one small, nervous-system-loving habit today.

A Final Word for the Woman Who Feels Like She’s Falling Apart

You are not alone.
You are not broken.
And you are absolutely not crazy.

I know what it feels like to cry on the bathroom floor asking, “When will this stop?”
To be terrified of the next panic attack.
To feel like no one understands—and nothing’s working.

But I promise you, there is a way through this.

Your body isn’t working against you. It’s trying to protect you.
And with the right support, it can heal.

“God is within her, she will not fall.” – Psalm 46:5
(And on the days when she does—He catches her.)
