Your Body as a Temple: Practical Ways to Honor God through Nutrition, Rest, and Lifestyle

"Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies."
— 1 Corinthians 6:19–20 (NIV)

1. Honor God through Nutrition

Food is a gift from God — created to nourish and sustain us. Choosing whole, seasonal foods is one way we can care for our bodies as His temple. Instead of chasing quick fixes or heavily processed options, we can slow down and enjoy the foods He created.

Scripture:
"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." — 1 Corinthians 10:31

Practical steps:

  • Swap one packaged snack for something fresh and whole.

  • Visit a local farmer’s market and pick up seasonal produce.

  • Pause before you eat and thank God for the meal He has provided.

2. Honor God through Rest

Rest isn’t laziness; it’s obedience. From the very beginning, God modeled rest when He set aside the seventh day as holy. When we slow down — through Sabbath, good sleep, or stepping back from busyness — we are reminded that He is in control, not us.

Scripture:
"Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God." — Exodus 20:8–10

Practical steps:

  • Set aside intentional time for Sabbath rest.

  • Create a simple evening routine that allows your body to unwind for sleep.

  • As you do household tasks, shift your mindset: “I’m doing this as unto the Lord.”

3. Honor God through Lifestyle

The world encourages us to chase more, but Scripture calls us to live simply and biblically. Simplicity creates space for us to hear His voice, care for what truly matters, and steward our lives well.

Scripture:
"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." — Matthew 6:33

Practical steps:

  • Declutter one small space in your home and dedicate it as a peaceful, God-centered spot.

  • Say “no” to one thing this week that doesn’t align with your values.

  • Begin your day with prayer or scripture before turning to your phone or to-do list.

A Little Encouragement

Honoring God with our bodies doesn’t mean adding more rules to our lives — it’s about inviting Him into the choices we’re already making. Whether it’s choosing a piece of fruit, pausing to rest, or simplifying your day, every step can be an act of worship.
